North Dakota Department of Health, Office of Community Assistance provides help to rural North Dakota communities in creating a planning process that involves Department of Health programs, community leaders, other state agencies, health care providers, state health associations and private consultants. The State Community Matching Physician Loan Repayment Program is a state financed and administered program designed to attract physicians to North Dakota to practice in areas of need. The focus of the program is to encourage new medical school graduates to practice in North Dakota. Up to $40,000 is awarded to each physician to repay educational loans.

The Dentist Loan Repayment Program is a state financed and administered program designed to attract dentists to North Dakota to practice in areas of need. The focus of the program is to encourage new dental school graduates to practice in North Dakota. Each dentist selected may receive up to $80,000 to repay educational loans.

The Medical Personnel Loan Repayment Program is a state financed and administered program designed to encourage Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and Certified Nurse Midwives to practice in North Dakota and to serve in areas of need. Each person selected may receive up to $10,000 to repay educational loans.

Long- Term Care Nursing Scholarship and Loan Repayment Grant Program is financed through Intergovernmental Transfer Funds received by the North Dakota Department of Human Services. The Department of Health awards annual grants to North Dakota Long Term Care Facilities. The facilities must match the grant amount and must offer scholarship or loan repayment programs to current nursing staff or to future staff that will be employed by the Long Term Care Facility.
