Director of Training and Technical Assistance
Cheryl Underhill is the director for training and technical assistance for the Community HealthCare Association of the Dakotas (CHAD). Prior to working with CHAD, Cheryl was the emergency preparedness and response coordinator for the southwest central region of North Dakota and coordinated the development of a regional public health incident response program from its inception. She served as the first co-chairperson of the North Dakota Health Resources and Services Administration Hospital Committee on Bioterrorism.
Cheryl has over 30 years of healthcare experience and holds masters degrees in nursing and business management. She started nursing in neuroscience critical care in Toledo, OH, and later moved to Minnesota to work within Fairview Health Systems as employee/ occupational health and safety coordinator for healthcare staff and corporate clients. She is nationally certified in occupational health and safety and homeland security.
She is a former North Dakota Department of Emergency Services Incident Management Team Liaison and led regional public health responses during the 2009 flooding and the H1N1 pandemic.
Throughout her career, Cheryl has been a trainer and presenter for numerous public, private, local and state organizations and has coordinated full-scale exercises involving over 150 local, state, and federal partners. Cheryl also worked for a private homeland security company for public health and hospitals in North and South Dakota regarding emergency operations planning and response.
She has served on medical mission trips to Mexico and Ecuador and looks forward to more mission opportunities.
